Bank of Queensland

The Bank of Queensland is using Moonwalk to reduce their total cost of storage. Migrating data from their primary storage systems to lower cost secondary storage will provide a dramatic increase in the volume of primary disk available whilst ensuring that all migrated data remains safe and immediately accessible.

Company overview:
Bank of Queensland is a cornerstone Queensland organisation, the second largest Queensland-based financial institution and the state’s fifth-largest listed company. The company has an asset base of around $17bn and net profit of $86m in the 2006 financial year.
The Bank was established in 1874 as The Brisbane Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society, the first permanent building society formed in Queensland. Today the Bank of Queensland has over 200 branches around Australia.
In 2005 Bank of Queensland was named Best Regional Bank by the Banking and Finance Industry for the second year in a row.

Key requirements: a need to store and manage massive amounts of data and particularly, for researchers to be able to retrieve data quickly and seamlessly regardless of it’s location.

Solution: The Moonwalk technology is to be deployed alongside existing storage infrastructure including secondary storage and TSM.
Moonwalk’s unique architecture guarantees that no matter how many servers or storage systems the Bank deploys, the workload will be distributed accordingly to ensure no bottlenecks or data funneling.
Moonwalk’s non-obtrusive approach to data management means that the technology is not only transparent to users, but also to applications.
In addition to standard Moonwalk functionality, the Bank has requested that Moonwalk develop compression technology for the secondary tier. Once implemented, this feature will provide even more storage and cost savings.
Moonwalk Universal develops software for Information Lifecycle Management in the Netware, Windows, UNIX and Linux environments. Moonwalk can be applied to a variety of operations including Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM), Archiving, Disaster Recovery and unstructured File Management.
